Angela-Allison Distinguished Youth Award 许妍菁-许琛珂优秀青年奖

Angela (许妍菁) and Allison (许琛珂) are both graduates from Tidewater Chinese School. While students here, they volunteered much of their time showcasing Chinese culture the local community.

Angela graduated from Princess Anne High School as valedictorian in 2006, and attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received a BA in International Studies and a BS in Economics. She continued her Chinese language studies in college and spent one semester at Fudan Univerty in Shanghai, China. She also received her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Angela currently works as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in San Francisco, and has spent one year in BCG’s Hong Kong office.

Allison graduated from Princess Anne High School as valedictorian in 2012, and attended the University of Virginia as a Jefferson Scholar. She continued her Chinese language studies at the university, and received a B.S. in Commerce with concentrations in Finance and Management. Allison currently works as a management consultant at Bain & Company in New York City.

As successful professionals today, Angela and Allison want to encourage more young students to learn Chinese and serve the community.  They have graciously sponsored the Distinguished Youth Award to honor college-bound high school juniors that currently attend TCS and have demonstrated excellence in academic work and community service.  To apply for this scholarship, candidates need to submit a personal statement, two letters of recommendation (one from his or her current high school, the other from a teacher at Tidewater Chinese School), and an unofficial transcript that shows a GPA higher than 3.0. All documents should be emailed to tidewater.chinese.tcs@gmail.com no later than May 15.

Other Requirements:

  • Completed at least 5 academic years or 10 academic semesters at Tidewater Chinese School or an equivalent Chinese School (if previously living in a different city).
  • Registered and attended at least 1 year or 2 semesters at Tidewater Chinese School in the last 2 years.

The award amount for the first place is $500, the second pace $300, and third place $200. Parents of the Xu sisters will present this award before the Super Talk Show in June.
